Most currency-exchange problems are easier to prevent before the transaction than to fix afterward. A short routine helps you slow down when you are handling unfamiliar banknotes, large numbers and an exchange location you may be visiting for the first time.
Before you travel to the exchange location
Use the current website or verified map listing for the address. Do not rely only on an old blog post, screenshot or message forwarded by another traveler. Check opening hours and the latest rate timestamp on the same day when possible.

If your foreign notes are old, damaged, marked or unusual, use the banknote preparation checklist and ask whether they are accepted. For a larger amount, call 0788 636 969 in advance so you do not travel with unnecessary cash only to discover that the transaction cannot be completed.
Protect cash while you are in transit
Carry only the amount you plan to exchange and keep it secured. Avoid displaying a large stack of foreign cash in public. If you are traveling with a companion, decide in advance who is responsible for the cash and documents so nothing is left behind during transport.
At the counter: confirm the transaction before handing over money
State the currency and amount you want to exchange. Confirm which rate applies, whether any separate fee applies and what final VND amount you should receive. If identification is required under the transaction procedure, use the legitimate counter process rather than sending sensitive documents through an unverified channel.
Know how many foreign notes you are handing over. This makes it easier to follow the transaction and resolve a simple counting mistake immediately.
Count or verify the VND before leaving
Take enough time to verify the amount you receive. Because VND denominations can involve many zeros, organize the notes before you leave. Keep any receipt or transaction record that is provided.
Once the transaction is complete, put the cash away securely instead of recounting it in a crowded area outside the counter.
Be cautious with unsolicited exchange offers
A traveler can encounter informal offers through social media, messaging apps or people approaching in tourist areas. A rate that appears unusually attractive is not useful if you cannot verify the operator, the banknotes or the final amount. Prefer a location and business identity you can verify.
Keep your backup payment option separate
